Transformation
from
Stroke to Stage
Dr. Lanny Brustein is a Stroke survivor with a ‘Saturday night palsy’ (10/3/2011) resulting from his third neck surgery. Ten years prior he took a direct blow upon his head from a kickboxing injury. This resulted in an impact fracture and spinal infection. Requiring three (3) neck surgeries and culminating into chronic pain for ten (10) years, numerous epidural steroid injections, and medications. His health deteriorated to obesity, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and weighing 240 lbs.
His left arm and hand had become partially paralyzed and underwent extensive rehabilitation. Dr. Brustein initially suffered the complete loss of speech (Expressive Aphasia) and loss of reading/writing (Receptive Aphasia).
He fought with all his will to restore his health and his life through Speech pathology (reading/writing/speech), pool therapy, Occupational hand therapy, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Massage, Acupuncture, Personal trainers, Meal planners, Yoga, Barre, Pilates, Tai Chi, swimming, fitness, and weight training. He forced himself from ‘Stroke to Stage’ by losing 75 lbs and then competing in the
Naturally Fit Games (Transformation-3rd place) in 2015
NPC Texas Cup (Bodybuilding 2nd place) in 2018.
